The Death of a Legend
March 22, 2017

Many of Hollywood’s stars are its monsters. The movie Kong Skull Island gives a perfect example of why. The movie showcases one of Hollywood’s most classic monsters bigger and more God-like than he has ever been. King Kong, the plane destroying damsel-capturing beast of an ape is back.

This time he is not the one antagonizing. In the movie Kong is set as a massive ape that is on the hunt for revenge after a group of military personnel and scientists drop bombs and viscously attack his island. The movie shows just why his name has the word “King” in it as he takes on various threats form big lizard monsters to a group of battle hardened Huey attack helicopters with more than enough fire power to take out a small army. Director Jordan Vogt Roberts has made a massive change to Kong as he creates a new and original story that has been set up to debut with the massive beast Godzilla in 2020. When it comes to the cast, Samuel L. Jackson has brought together a band of battle hardened Marines that act more as a family than platoon. The squad consists of some pilots and a group if gunners. It’s obvious that they had had some time together during the conflict. This sets the tone of how loyal towards Packard they actually are.

In the final months of the Vietnam conflict commander Packard (Sam Jackson) receives a call from a scientific group to escort a group of civilian scientists and researchers to an unknown island as a “final joyride” before having to turn in his BDUs. After getting to the island Packard witnesses most of his men wiped out by the hands of Kong and uses his men’s loyalty to then to go on what seems to be suicide mission to destroy what looks to be an unbeatable foe. At the end of the day this is a great movie and should have a strong parental rating due to the amount of violence blood and gore. This movie has earned 8.5 out of Ten stars. This is a great movie but like all it has its errors, this movie is recommended to those who love a good action flick.
