Watch out folks, a warrior is on the rise! Junior Kaya McCartan was recently promoted to second degree black belt and earned her instructor’s patch in Taekwondo. McCartan has done the Korean martial art since fourth grade, and she’s made many memories doing so. “I do it to connect with myself,” she says. “It really re-centers you and gives you time to focus while teaching you self-defense.” Taekwondo is a lifetime activity, and there are nine levels of black belt that one can obtain through years of hard work. “It’s a personal sport- your accomplishments are your own,” McCartan affirms. Instructor Mark Day welcomes anyone to come watch or participate. Classes are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 5PM at the Hegewald Center.
